Wisconsin Rapids fire: Sprinklers save WR Cold Storage Monday evening

Oct 16, 2024

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Sprinklers saved a Wisconsin Rapids business after a fire Monday evening.

Wisconsin Rapids Fire Chief Todd Eckes said crews were called to 801 21st Ave. N. for a fire alarm at about 5:13 p.m. Monday. The address is home to WR Cold Storage. When crews arrived, nobody was inside and firefighters found the zone where the fire occurred in a maintenance room. When they opened the room, they found smoke and flowing water.

The sprinkler system in the room had extinguished the fire before crews arrived, Eckes said.

“The sprinklers saved that building,” Eckes said.

The fire department cleared the scene around 5:50 p.m., Eckes said.

The fire caused about $25,000 in damage, and officials determined the cause of the fire was unintentional, according to a news release from the fire department.
